It was another busy Friday morning!
We looked at more of the mountie artifacts and then got a chance to take a closer look at all of the artifacts. It was great to wear our white gloves and get to touch and inspect these very interesting artifacts up close.
Ask your child: What was their favourite artifact? What was it used for?
What was their favourite part of their mountie experience over yesterday and today.
Thank you to those who have paid for their child to experience the mountie kit. If you have not paid yet, please do so ASAP. $2 please
Thank you for everyone who continues to send in donations for Warm Feet for the Street. We are still needing more donations to reach our goal of stuffing over 200 socks next Thursday.
A few kiddos have overdue library books. Please return or renew them next week.
Stay warm and have a great weekend.

Jersey Day Tomorrow
Get in the Grey Cup Spirit of the City! Wear a Jersey tomorrow of your favourite team or a team you are a part of for Jersey Day!
Don't forget - It's fun lunch too!
Our boat stability experimenting continued today with a cork boat. We added a sail to see if that helped make it more stable, and then a keel. A keel is a weight at the bottom of the boat. Some of us were successful at making our boats very stable today.
We also finished up our lighthouse art! Wow! Check out these beautiful finished pieces of art work. We have some very talented and artistic artists in our room.

Postcards from the Arctic!
You've got mail!
Your child's postcard from our trip to the Arctic is in your mailbox (wink, wink, backpack). These were letters that we wrote as a draft and then went through a number of feedback loops. This is now their final good copy. Our focus was on descriptive writing. Here is the criteria that we focused on.
Includes 5 different ideas that tell about the land

This is now their final good copy. Our focus was on descriptive writing. Here is the criteria that we focused on.
Includes 5 different ideas that tell about the land
Uses descriptive words that create a visual image in the reader’s mind
Spell sight words correctly most of the time
Almost always uses capitals at the beginning and ending punctuation correctly (. ! ?)
To have all of these things would mean that your child is on track (3) with their writing. We went through a number of feedback loops with our peers and teacher to ensure we had met the expectations for this writing task. Take time to read and enjoy their postcard and then with your child, see if they have all the criteria for this writing task. What do they feel they have done a good job on? What improvements did they make in their writing from their first draft?

A Boat that Floats?
Book orders for November are going home today
This afternoon we had our first boat building challenge. Here are some of our thoughts on how it went.
We got to build our boat with a partner and we got to test it in a container of water to see if it would float and it also had to carry a load - Grace T
My partner was Jade and our boat did not sink but it took on water - Grace D
My partner was Cayden and we built a boat out of plasticine, tin foil, cardboard and styrofoam and popsicle sticks and our boat sank - Zoie
First we were given the building challenge and discussed expectations for our boat
We worked with our partners to discuss and plan what we were going to do and how we were going to build our boat.

We tested our boats to see if they could carry a load, float, move forward, was waterproof and stable.
Some of our boats were successful, and many of our boats were not. :(
Now we are going to learn more about boats and then have another building challenge in a few weeks.
Everyone did a great job of working together, cooperating and doing their best to make a boat. Well done!
